It’s finally here! Facebook has released a new app on Monday that lets page admins manage your branded Facebook page from your mobile iPhone.
The new App, Facebook Pages Manager, lets you post, comment, and responde directly to your page. Additional features include posting updates and photos, among others. The app is free, so no need to worry, just install from the App Store and get started.
This will work wonders for many brand managers on the go who had previously been unable to act as the brand/page on the original Facebook App. This app, along with all of the other apps hosted on Facebook, will be available in the new App Center, planned by Facebook to promote both iOS and Android apps.
Facebook has recently announced that they will be launching The App Center in coming weeks. This service will allow app developers to sell their apps directly to consumers from Facebook on the web and in the iOS and Android Facebook apps.
With Facebook topping 900 million users, The App Center will act as a central place to find great apps Apps on Facebook include a wide range of offerings from social games like Sklots – Slots and Skill Games, as well as highly demanded music services like Pandora and Spotify.
This should prove to be a game changer for many app developers, as it allows users to browse apps based on number of installs, user ratings, and engagement. Each app has an app detail page, which allows people to install it before going to an app.

Just as you were getting used to the new and improved Facebook Timeline, more changes are coming. Facebook has announced that on March 30, 2012, all Facebook pages will be converted to the Timeline format.
This new timeline layout allows page admins to do away with landing pages and focus on the stylish banner image and profile pic, which should provide for some interesting branding and design ideas.
According to Gokul Rajaram, Facebook’s product director for ads, “The goal is to make Pages more engaging and more social”.
Another benefit for page administrators is the new insights integration. Facebook had already introduced the new Insights for pages, but this takes it the step further by providing detailed information right at your fingertips.
Additionally, Facebook has finally listented to many users requests and added the private message feature. Now, pages will be able to respond to private messages from their fans, in the same way as a user profile does.

On Tuesday, August 23, Facebook announced that they were introducing a great deal of improvements to the privacy settings that make it easier to share posts, photos, tags and other content with exactly the people you want.
We recently wrote an article about 10 tips to Facebook privacy that highlighted the most important security and privacy settings. It seems that the staff at Facebook have taken a few tips from their more than 700 million users and made the privacy settings much more user friendly and streamlined.
Facebook has always been under fire for their hard to manage and often hidden privacy settings. According to an official statement by the Facebook regarding the recent changes:
So what do these changes mean for you and your profile settings? Most of the privacy settings are integrated and able to be modified from the profile page. Let’s have a look at some of the changes:
Profile Settings – You can edit the visibility of individual parts of your profiles from the profile editing page whereas previously this had to be done from the Privacy Settings page.
Tag Approvals – Facebook has implemented Tag Approvals. Users now must approve location or photo tags before they appear on your profile. This option can be disabled.
Photo Tag Approvals – A user can tag anybody in a photo whether they are friends or not. This makes it easier to tag people in group shots, but users must approve the tags before they appear on their profile.
Facebook Places – This has been integrated into the Publisher Box and users can now tag a location into any status update. This also applies to photos and photo albums.
GPS Restrictions – There are now no more GPS restrictions and users can tag any location in a status update or photo, making it possible to tag a location in a photo album from anywhere.
Mobile Apps – The Facebook Places icon will no longer appear in the mobile apps, and a ‘Nearby’ icon will appear instead and will display which users have tagged their location nearby.

Facebook has now added the option of accessing the site using a HTTP Secure (HTTPS) connection which greatly increases security for users.
2. Sharing on Facebook
Account > Privacy Settings > Sharing on Facebook
When you share information on Facebook, it is essential that you are aware of what you are sharing and with whom. Facebook has made this process a bit less painstaking by allowing you to share content with Everyone, Friends of Friends, or Friends only.
3. Checking in on Facebook
Account > Privacy Settings > Sharing on Facebook > Customize Settings > Friends can check me in to Places
Facebook Places is a newer feature on Facebook that allows users to check in via mobile devices in physical locations. This setting under sharing generally goes unnoticed and can be very frustrating for users. If you do not want your friends to check you into places and let everyone in the world know where you are and what you are doing, then make sure to disable this function.
4. Existing Photos and Albums
Account > Privacy Settings > Sharing on Facebook > Customize Settings > Edit album privacy for existing photos
Make sure you go back through your old photo albums and apply these settings to your existing photos. This can be done individually or by album.
5. Connecting on Facebook
Account > Privacy Settings > Connecting on Facebook
The privacy settings for sharing content on Facebook are different from the settings for connecting on Facebook. This information includes: profile picture, gender, age, education, hometown, etc. If you wan to customize your settings to determine who can see what information about you, this is the place to do it.
6. Apps, Games, and Websites
Account > Privacy Settings > Apps and Websites > Apps You Use
This is one of the privacy settings that can be a bit more effort to set up, as many users have collected dozens of apps and each of them have their own individual privacy settings. A general rule of thumb is if you can’t remember what the app is, you probably don’t need it!
7. Instant Personalization
Account > Privacy Settings > Apps and Websites > Instant Personalization
Instant Personalization allows third-party websites to personalize your experience based on your personal data. This can make for a more interesting browsing experience, but be aware that you are allowing access to your personal data.
You can choose to opt-out of Instant Personalization on individual third-party websites by just clicking “No Thanks” when asked about it. Facebook also allows you to completely disable it by leaving the check box before “Enable instant personalization on partner websites” unchecked.
8. Info accessible through your friends
Account > Privacy Settings > Apps and Websites > Info accessible through your friends
Many users are unaware, but this is a privacy setting that users should take note of. Even if you have all of your privacy settings safe and secure, you still are sharing a portion of your content with other users, even if it is with some of your closest friends. This is where the issue arises that if THEIR security and privacy settings are not customized, they could be sharing YOUR information with third party websites. This setting allows you to set exactly what information is available to apps and websites if your friends use them.
9. Public Search
Account > Privacy Settings > Apps and Websites > Public Search
Search engines like Google and Bing will show results of your public profile when someone searches your name. If you don’t want to share this information, make sure you turn this option off.
10. Friend Lists
Friends > Edit Friends > Create a List
The average Facebook user has 130 friends and is connected to more than 80 pages and groups. Most people don’t want to share ALL of their information with everyone, so Facebook has made it a bit easier to determine what you share and with who.
