As the Online Gaming laws are chaning in the USA, Apple has made announcement that is sure to rock the real money gaming industry.
Following the news that Facebook was going to allow real money gaming for users in the UK, Apple announced that they will allow real money gaming apps in their hugely popular iTunes store. Users in regulated markets, currently UK only, will be allowed to access real money games on the iPhone for the first time ever.
Seattle based company, Big Fish Games, has been named as the first game provider for the launch. Working in conjunction with Betable Ltd, a London based company, they will introduce the mobile gaming apps to the UK audiences later this year. Not far behind, industry giants Zynga, have also made a public statement that they plan on having online casinos live in 2013.
While Apple is known for taking a cut from app developers on every sale on iTunes, they will not be taking any revenues from real money gaming apps.
According to Big Fish CEO, Paul Thelen, “Apple wants to keep arms’ length from this. They don’t want to be the middleman in a gambling operation.”
This is an incredibly pivotal time not only for online gaming, but for mobile as well, as this represents a major shift in the way users access the Internet. With an increasing amount of users opting to use mobile on the go, do you think this could be the next big Internet success story?
