Leading game developers, Gamesys, have launched the first real money gambling app for UK users 18 and over.

Bingo Friendzy imageBingo Friendzy, presented by Gamesys, aims to capture the increasingly growing online bingo players.  Users compete in an environment much like an online bingo site, however, this marks the first time cash or prizes are awarded within online games on the Facebook platform.  GameSys also produces the widely popular JackpotJoy games as well.

This is a huge step for the online gaming industry and is sure to be the first of many licenesed online gambling and casino operators to make their entrance into the booming app industry.  Gaming leaders and Facebook partners, Zynga, are sure to follow up with a release later in the year.

This will also prove to be a healthy source of income for Facebook, as they have been struggling as of late since their initial stock market appearance and flop.

Will Facebook go forward with jobs board?

Jul 12, 2012   //   by admin   //   Facebook Info and Tips  //  Comments Off on Will Facebook go forward with jobs board?

Speculation is increasing on the web about a possible jobs board on Facebook to compete with LinkedIn.

LinkedInFor those looking for a new career or just interested what’s out there, many may be visiting Facebook to find the latest and greatest offers. With Facebook nearing more than 800 million users and their recent IPO, its no surprise that they are looking for additional sources of revenue to help them stay at the top of their game. While Facebook is more known for being the social space that keeps work and social lives separate, the line is becoming increasingly blurred as more and more monetization is being sought after on the social giant.

LinkedIn has maintained its popularity as the social networking site that allows you to network with your fellow industry colleagues and has become one of the most popular on-line sites for job seekers.  Additionally, LinkedIn has a much more professional feel to the environment, which directly opposes that of Facebook.

What are you thoughts? Do you think that a combination of your work life and social life is a good idea? Let us know and we’ll be sure to keep you posted with all the latest news.

Feb 29, 2012   //   by admin   //   Blog, Facebook Info and Tips  //  Comments Off on Facebook Pages get a Facelift

Just as you were getting used to the new and improved Facebook Timeline, more changes are coming. Facebook has announced that on March 30, 2012, all Facebook pages will be converted to the Timeline format.

Facebook image

This new timeline layout allows page admins to do away with landing pages and focus on the stylish banner image and profile pic, which should provide for some interesting branding and design ideas.

According to Gokul Rajaram, Facebook’s product director for ads,  “The goal is to make Pages more engaging and more social”.

Another benefit for page administrators is the new insights integration.  Facebook had already introduced the new Insights for pages, but this takes it the step further by providing detailed information right at your fingertips.

Additionally, Facebook has finally listented to many users requests and added the private message feature.  Now, pages will be able to respond to private messages from their fans, in the same way as a user profile does.

Foursquare passes 15 million user mark

Dec 12, 2011   //   by admin   //   Blog, Online Marketing Tips  //  Comments Off on Foursquare passes 15 million user mark

On-line check-in giant, Foursquare has just passed 15 million users.  This is milestone is huge for Foursquare, as they only had 1/3 of their current user base just one year ago.

Foursquare has dominated the geo-location market and has out-stayed competitors like Gowalla, Loopt, Scvngr, and MyTown and maintained an average of 7.5 million users in the USA.

With more than 90 million smartphone users in the US aged 13+, nearly 78% of smartphone users are potential geo-social app users.  Facebook has made an attempt to enter into the mobile check-in market with Facebook Places; however, it has not seen the same results as Foursquare.

In an attempt to increase their market share, Facebook has acquired more technical employees for its California headquarters by buying Gowalla.  Gowalla, based in Austin, Texas, will relocate the majority of its engineering staff to Palo Alto, CA to work on improving the mobile apps offered by Facebook.

Are you using social media and geo-location apps to promote your business? If you have a physical location where customers can visit your store, you could be offering more via location based apps!  Contact us today for a free quote and find out of CKR Media Consulting can help you get more customers through your doors.

Does your business have a social media strategy?

Sep 12, 2011   //   by admin   //   Online Marketing Tips  //  Comments Off on Does your business have a social media strategy?

As more and more businesses enter into the social media arena, one of the biggest mistakes I’ve noticed is the lack of a clear and well thought out social media strategy.

Many business owners think that if they have created Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts, occasionally post content, this will be sufficient to promote their brand online. Unfortunately, this is where many businesses are missing out on the true value of social media.

Are you engaging your customers online?

One of the most important aspects of social media is the ability to connect with your customers, and ultimately your intended target market, on a personal level. This helps to gain important insight into understanding what your customers want.  Additionally, use these opportunities to strengthen your brand presence online and develop new networks.

At CKR Media Consulting, we can help you create a social media strategy that will help you take your business to the next level. Contact us today for a free quote!

Facebook unveils new privacy settings

Aug 24, 2011   //   by admin   //   Facebook Info and Tips  //  Comments Off on Facebook unveils new privacy settings

Facebook imageOn Tuesday, August 23, Facebook announced that they were introducing a great deal of improvements to the privacy settings that make it easier to share posts, photos, tags and other content with exactly the people you want.

We recently wrote an article about 10 tips to Facebook privacy that highlighted the most important security and privacy settings. It seems that the staff at Facebook have taken a few tips from their more than 700 million users and made the privacy settings much more user friendly and streamlined.

Facebook has always been under fire for their hard to manage and often hidden privacy settings.  According to an official statement by the Facebook regarding the recent changes:

We made some changes to how you manage privacy, but nothing about our underlying privacy policy is changing. Privacy policies can and should be more easily understood, and that inspired us to try something different.

So what do these changes mean for you and your profile settings? Most of the privacy settings are integrated and able to be modified from the profile page.  Let’s have a look at some of the changes:

Profile Settings – You can edit the visibility of individual parts of your profiles from the profile editing page whereas previously this had to be done from the Privacy Settings page.

Tag Approvals – Facebook has implemented Tag Approvals. Users now must approve location or photo tags before they appear on your profile.  This option can be disabled.

Photo Tag Approvals – A user can tag anybody in a photo whether they are friends or not. This makes it easier to tag people in group shots, but users must approve the tags before they appear on their profile.

facebook photo tags

Facebook Places – This has been integrated into the Publisher Box and users can now tag a location into any status update. This also applies to photos and photo albums.

GPS Restrictions – There are now no more GPS restrictions and users can tag any location in a status update or photo, making it possible to tag a location in a photo album from anywhere.

Mobile Apps – The Facebook Places icon will no longer appear in the mobile apps, and a ‘Nearby’ icon will appear instead and will display which users have tagged their location nearby.
